The Functional Skills Qualification in Mathematics at Entry Level 1, 2, and 3 is designed to help learners develop essential mathematical skills needed for everyday life, work, and further education. These qualifications focus on practical and transferable skills, enabling candidates to use mathematics confidently, effectively, and independently in real-life situations.

The Entry Level Functional Skills Mathematics qualification is divided into three levels:

• Entry Level 1 – Focuses on the basic use of numbers in simple, everyday contexts.
• Entry Level 2 – Develops understanding of more practical mathematical applications.
• Entry Level 3 – Prepares learners to solve routine mathematical problems with confidence.

These levels build progressively, allowing learners to develop and strengthen their skills at their own pace.

• Entry Level 1

  • Understanding numbers up to 20.
  • Performing simple calculations using addition and subtraction.
  • Recognizing basic shapes and their properties.
  • Understanding measurements related to length, weight, and capacity.
  • Using coins and notes to solve simple money problems.
  • Interpreting basic charts and diagrams.

• Entry Level 2

  • Working with numbers up to 100.
  • Performing addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with whole numbers.
  • Recognizing and using fractions (e.g., halves and quarters).
  • Understanding and using units of measurement (e.g., cm, m, g, kg, l).
  • Solving real-life money problems, including giving change.
  • Reading and interpreting information from simple charts, tables, and graphs.

• Entry Level 3

  • Working with numbers up to 1000.
  • Performing calculations using all four operations with whole numbers and simple decimals.
  • Using and comparing fractions and decimals.
